STD testing
Why should I get tested for STDs/STIs? I have no symptoms.- 2 out of 3 new cases of a sexually transmitted infection occur in people under age 25.
- Teens are at a greater risk for STDs than adults and many have no symptoms.
- Long term damage can lead to Pelvic Inflammatory Disease (PID) which can possibly cause infertility, cervical cancer, ectopic (tubal) pregnancy, or damage to your organs.
Even if you are sexually active with only one partner, it's important to get tested because:
- You may have an STD and not know it for months or years.
- You may unknowingly give it to your partner.
- Your partner may not know they have an STD from the past or may not tell you.

What about treatment?
Treatment for STDs varies depending on the type and severity of the infection. Bacterial STDs may be treated with antibiotics. Viral STDs are incurable but symptoms must be treated and monitored by a physician.
